Waiver Claims and Stat Notes

Hello League!

Remember to update your rosters to reflect the waiver wire claims from this week.  You should have received a text from Peter on those claims.  I will list them again in case you haven't.

BJ drops T Jackson, acquires Henry Melton (CHI)
Tim drops A Smith, acquires Cadillac Williams (STL)
Joe D drops A Rolle, acquires Darren Sproles (NO)
Peter drops J Ringer, acquires Cam Newton (CAR)

Stat Note

Remember when looking at the weekly stats, (as if any of you do this) when adding up the total offense and total defense you may see it is not the same as total points.  This is due to the special teams points that a team may put up in a week.  These points are always reflected in the scores of course, but in tracking they are left out of the pure categories of offense and defense.  While this has been the way things have been as far as I can remember, if it becomes confusing we can discuss how to track these points at the next Roundtable Discussion.

Lead up to Week 1 Finals

WHO SAID MONDAY NIGHT DOESN'T COUNT??!!!!

We may have seen a late night lead change thanks to some record setting kicking.  We may have seen a few leads solidified in the wee hours of the night.

BUT WITH THAT SAID.....

Just a reminder to EVERYONE in the league, we started our new checking system two years ago and it still applies.

As you know, the NFL will review the games and make corrections to stats each week.  While normally it is minimal and doesn't sway a game, we will be taking extra precautions as this is the first week. For us, and those  pros who give us the stats.  Plus, we have some VERY CLOSE GAMES this week as well.

SO, we will give our PRELIMINARY scores up front first AS USUAL. Then when the NFL is done with fixing stats as needed, we will CONFIRM or UPDATE a score.

Obviously, if you have more than 4-7 points up on your opponent, you can rest a little. But if you lose, or win, by a razor thin margin, be aware of the stat corrections.

Enough said.

Thank you.

Week 1 has begun

So, we still have 3 games left.

Here are the current updates up to now.

Peter vs. Willie

Willie seems to have a slight edge so far, but not by much.  Luckily for him, Peter only has 3 players remaining.
Witten, Davis, and Fields.  It will take a great game for him to gain the punter and beat Willie at 49.0, which Peter needs to pull off this upset.

Chuck vs. Joe A

Chuck still has 4 offensive players out there, including Brady.  With 3 Defensive players to play still.  Joe A has 7 offensive guys to play, 3 each from RB and WR.  He's gonna need some good stats to combat Chuck's +14pts from TDs.  Joe A did win the punter battle, so this may help as their defenses are pretty close. Chuck has 3 to play, with Joe A having 2.

Joe D vs. Joe K

So Vick might not even start for Joe D, as Stafford really put up some great numbers, as did Kolb proving he's better than Vick. But Vick's 98 rushing yards will be nice in the future if those guys stumble.  This game is pretty lopsided as Joe D seems to be running away with it. Even if Joe K wins the punter battle, he's currently 3TDs behind on defense.  Joe K has some WRs to play, while the only thing Joe D has is 4 defenders.  I'd be surprised if Joe K brings enough to win. Congrats Joe D, but are you even reading this??? Maybe Joe K gets a few bonus points for not only signing into the blog, but having his own picture!!

Tim vs. BJ

You ever see two heavyweights go at it? Both are dishing the punishment, and taking it. That is exactly happening right here folks.  It always sucks when the top 2 point getters of the week end up playing each other.  Because then, you know that you would have whooped anyone else in the league that day, except for the one you are playing.  And it's worse seeing the second lowest playing the lowest and come away with a victory.  Well, that is the feeling that is going to happen for one of these two giants.  Right now the game is too close to call. While Tim's offense is bringing it with the likes of Smith, MJD, and Jackson; BJ is bringing his defense to the table along with special teams.  And it may be Jay Cutler getting the last laugh in this game as he has just shut up and played since draft day.  Players to watch for this game are Newman for Tim and Jones for BJ.  Either guy has a big game, and it could tip the scales.

It has begun!!!

It's now time to do as the kids are saying these days....

MAKE IT RAIN!!!!!

We have begun, and what a beginning it was.  Goal line run??!!!??!! WTF?!!?!?!
That play never even works in Madden, yet alone real life???!!!

Spread that offense out and get everybody running wild then find the gap. Seriously, do I have to do everything around here??

As for the GFFL, some people are busting right out of the gate.

BJ vs. Tim

While Beesch's Bunch is still waiting to punish people, Tim came out with some guns a blazin'. He's got a solid start in Jennings with 119 yds, and Cobb with 65 yds with a +7TD.  The big thing will be if his 0 for 3 defense will pick it up, as Beesch's Bunch will surely have something to provide to counter those stats. But still, a nice start.

Joe A vs. Chuck

There's a video of Walter Payton smashing some defender, then another, then another, and still going on. Have you seen it??? You should have if you have been keeping up with the blog.

This is exactly what Schmabby did to Chuck opening night. Brees posts 479 (5) and nets him 28 Pts. Not too shabby Schmabby.  And with the solid 53yds from Finley and half sack from AJ, you are looking good buddy.
Chuck didn't take it completely lying down, as he had 1 of his 2 players in tonight, and in a vital role. Graham put up 86 yds, which is only 4 yds away from 7Pts. And with Brady, anything is possible. This will come down to defense, and Wayne's production MINUS Peyton. (Which also might hurt that team that has Manning. Who is that again???)

Joe D vs. Joe K

Joe D really had nothing going on, except 2 dudes. One got stopped at the goalline (see above) and posted 40 Yds, and his punter put up 42.5. But will that be enough to stop the HOF punter that Joe K has back on his squad? Well, Joe K would tell you, "no." but here is a stat that i'm sure he doesn't like. Greer=0.
With that said, Walden = 1sack, and Starks nabbed him 82 yds. We will find out if Vick comes into play and destroys the team that let him go and didn't move up to get him in the draft.

Willie vs. Peter J

Well, at least this Manning is playing, and can try to combat the 372 (1) that Rodgers posted. That's the problem though. Even though Rodgers won the NFL game, Brees playing from behind posted better yards.
Rodgers 21 pts, while impressive, is able to be minimized by a halfway decent game from the opponent.(So i'm taking offers for Cutler right now. Who's got Manning?? Oh yeah... Could you live with Cutler Tim??)  And we will see the first action of a dynamic duo at RB since the days of yore with Smith and Sanders.
They do have  a little help from Colston posting 81 yds. but that was it from his 4 starters tonight. Pete looks mean and nasty on paper, but will he deliver in the fantasy world. We will find out Sunday.

SO.

There we are. A quick recap while all you little kids are sleeping, the big boys are up making moves.

You will notice a task bar at the top of the blog.

Follow these simple steps.

1) PUT YOUR EMAIL INTO IT.

GFFL Online MOBILE VIEW

So I switched some setting here and hopefully people are now able to view our blog via their mobile devices.

I would likesome feedback on this please.

Questions:
I see from the stats that some people have already used iphone and android to hit up the site.
What was it like? Did it work? Were you able to view? post?

Did the settings i just changed make it better? worse?

The only way this site will be as awesome as the GFFL itself, is by giving input and getting involved.

Thanks.

Weekly Discussion

So here is a little place for a weekly discussion.  You can post your predictions on the week for our league, or the NFL. You can answer the question of the week that I will be putting up. You can get in on the conversation that goes on in my head or not, it's completely up to you.

So, the question of the week is: Who will be the first to jump on the waiver wire?? Why??

As for predictions... GFFL: Peter over Willie; Joe D over Joe K; Joe A over Chuck; BJ over Tim.

The NFL pick games of the week are.... NO vs GB; IND vs. HOU; TEN vs. JAX; and SEA vs. SF.

In taking them straight up, no spread; I have to take: GB, HOU, JAX, SEA.

Let your voice be heard!!!!

Commish Beesch

roster correction

Nate clements is in CINCY not SF.
Blame Chuck.
Thank Peter for the catch.

Please let us know of any other mistakes.
