2012 Finals, thoughts
So here we are. The end of another fantastic year. While I know that we have had updates via text throughout the playoff, I thought I would put up one more post here.
Here is the final score again for the Championship.
Chuck 52 - Joe K 16.
A hard fought battle to get to the big game, and well done by both teams.
So, what did you score this week? How did you do?
You didn't do it? oh. I didn't either. For you that is.
I scored 108 total points. (two more than chuck did, and i would have won the punter battle over either guy.)
Again, doesn't matter unless i make the playoffs. That is usually how my team treats me each year anyways.
As for the updates, scoring, etc, etc: I'm sure that the phone companies are loving us with all the texting we have done over the year, including the final weeks here. For those keeping score, we have had an excellent year of updates both via texts and this here blog. As usual, we hit a few snags. They were predicted, and offered a solution, but not heeded and we felt the slight effect of it.
It seems that the pressures of a lazy society are always crashing against the breakwall that is our league. It was stated to me, "why do i need an online system to tell me how much i'm getting my ass kicked by? I know what my team is doing, I know if i'm winning or losing." I know, I agree and understand.
Again, one of the unique things about our league is involvement in your team. I cherish it, i love it, i hate it. But it is ours, and ours alone. There is nothing more that needs to be said on this topic from me. If you read my post before, you know where I stand. And as long as I am a commissioner in the GFFL, that is where the League stands. It takes courage to do the right thing, to make the unpopular call, but the right call. I believe that I am making the right call for the long term betterment of the League.
As to the future, look to the final standings to see the first four picks.
Take the two losers of the playoffs and lower seed has the fifth pick, higher has the sixth.
Joe K has the seventh.
Chuck the eight.
AGAIN, draft day has been decided!!!
I am telling you now.
SET IN STONE.
if we have four teams there, we have four teams there.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 25th

Good luck to you in this offseason.
See you in 2013.

Semifinals preliminary scoring
So, here is what we have so far...
Peter vs. Chuck
Peter is currently 30 points down. But you knew this.
He has cj2k, britt, cook, and coples to play, but it doesn't look promising. but you knew this.
Chuck has birones and griffin to help pile it on, but you knew this.
That 30 above doesn't include the two point homefield advantage, but you knew this.
Joe A vs. Joe K
A much closer game, with Joe K up by 20 points, but again, you knew this.
Joe K is done scoring, with Joe A needing a miracle from cromartie, but you knew this.
Why do you know this?
Because I know this.
Because it is all there.
Right in front of you, the whole time.
You want to talk about the future?
Here it is.
The old job of the commissioner was to facilitate the draft, score games, and make rulings on odd stats, like Gore's catch of the fumble for a TD. Did you catch that one? Of course you did. Why do i know this? Because I know this.
And if I know this, You know this.
There is no mystery here.
NFL.COM
Want the breakdown explanation of the above scores?
Do it yourself, but you already did, right?
Because what I know, you know.
I didn't make the playoffs, but you know this.
But did you know this, that I took away fourteen this week on defense, with wimbley still to play?
probably not. why? because it wasn't important to know it, other than me.
For next year that is.
You know, still evaluating the team.
Going over what could be changed.
Getting a preliminary and most likely final, barring injuries and training camp, protection list.
but the question really isn't if you knew what I did on defense.
The question is, did you know what you did on defense.
whether you are in the playoffs or not, do you know.
sure, if you are in this week, more interest to find out.
but if you are eliminated, are you done checking, much like the regular season?
how many of you will check your guys week seventeen, when it means nothing to anyone.
perhaps if you see the questions that i ask rediculous, then we have come to the end of the GFFL.
For the GFFL is different that any other league, and it is more than one day. it is a season. it is a tradition. it is what defines us, much like the Constitution.
And if you can't answer the above in a positive light, perhaps it is time to ask yourself what you want out of your future. what you envision it to be. and if it is one that contains the GFFL. because we are not a computer league. you are allowed to have other leagues. some of you already do. how much attention you give to the GFFL and other leagues is up to you.
If you do not wish to pick up the paper and join the cause, then expect what has been given to you over the past few years. If you are willing to take up the paper and continue in the storied tradition of the GFFL, we are accepting applications for commish as always. We are always up for a vote to have new blood. i'm sure some of the leagues former commissioners will attest to the freshness of a season without the responsibility of decision making beyond that of their own team.
But note this, unless there is some program that keeps the integrity of the original scoring system, i will not participate in any such league and call it the GFFL. This league has been around before 90% of all these other leagues existed. Maybe it is acceptable to see the United States decline, but not the GFFL. We have made minor adjustments through the years, and all for the betterment of the league. Joining some online group and altering the scoring destroys what we have built all this time. The league is bigger than you and I now. It is its own thing.
It doesn't adapt to you.
You adapt to it.
The new reality is speed through cooperation.
If you don't accept cooperation, you will not get speed.
But the GFFL will live on where others blend and fade into an ever blander background.
Yours in spirit,
BJ
