Week 1, thus far...

Well Gentlemen, we are off!!!

Don't get to comfortable to such immediate updates like this, but it always inevitable that this happens week one. It's like Christmas up in here!! Always curious to see how things are looking in the first week, and I'm sure the excitement will carry over to the waiver wire and power rankings as well.

FYI!!!

In an effort to expedite things, Peter and I will be splitting duty on games. Of course on the close ones we will double up, but hopefully this will not only bring things to you faster, but start to elevate your own skills as a scorer and bring you do scoring your own games as well. I know that most of you already do this, as some of you are former commishes!! Hopefully this blog will be more active and will be a way for you to communicate your scores to your games and Peter and I can fall into more of an administrative role as you owners take more ownership over your team.  (But don't freak out Willie, I'll still score games for you. ;) )

So, lets look at what we have going on so far!!!

Todd @ Joe A

Todd has come out of the gate quick.  Romo set the pace, and the rest of the team has followed.  Lynch [85(12)] quelled any rumors of being benched and Smith [87(59)] showed his ankle was healthy putting up a  great game for Todd. With Johnson [149] and Moore [150] chipping in at WR, MJD [77(18)] is looking like his holdout may make him a backup this week. With a few more guys to play on defense Todd already has 4.5 sacks and 1 INT [-22]. And with special teams going well on week 1 [K+2, P+3] it's going to take a lot for Schmabby to overcome the lead that Todd has. Big Ben wasn't going to be much help with Brees's numbers [379] and even with some shifting on offense of a 1RB 3WR set giving him more points with Jackson backing up, he needs to bring it on defense. Miller [2 sacks] answered the call tonight adding to Cromartie's pick six [-14], but it may not be enough. Schmabby is betting heavy on BLACK tomorrow as he needs Janikowski to get at least 3-4 FGS, Seymour to get 2 sacks, and Carter just to make it past the practice squad. Good luck buddy, but it seems the Rookie might be getting a win in the first week, and on the road to boot. We shall see.

Joe D @ BJ

The Champ was hosted by the Beesch in what was billed as a top heavyweight fight by the power rankings. Unfortunately, so far this game hasn't held up to its bidding as it currently is a bit one sided. The QBs have both done their jobs in getting 21pts a piece, but similarities end there. BJ's weakness at WR turned out alright as Austin [103] gave a cushion for the RBs to do their thing.  And they did.  Forte [105(40)] showed why he is a premier back in the league, and Bradshaw [103(15)] is enjoying the solo spotlight.  Bush [92] and Charles [87] both chimed in deepening the field, but it was the "surprise" showing of Alfred Morris, Morris [146] that really was the gem.  Too early to say steal of the draft says Jackelen, but hopefully Shanahan likes what he sees and keeps this guy starting for him and keeps that Helu kid on the bench. Not to be outdone, Beesch's defense actually showed up in week one and hopefully will do so with consistency. As we all know, defense wins Championships. Dunta you know that? DRC does [-14] with 2 INTs and Haden [-7] even broke the rules and played this week.  Joe D may claim an asterisk on this game if he loses, but that is still a ways off, as he does have 5 guys on defense still to play tomorrow night.  He could also win the punter battle, but Morstead [55.6] will be tough to beat this week as he currently has the highest score. Take that Andy Lee.

Peter J @ Joe K

Speaking of Andy Lee [51.2] , he kicked the crap out of Moorman [40.5]!! Then Akers [+3] came and pissed on him. But that 5 point advantage was all but wiped out in the QB position as Luck [299(9)] could hold Stafford's jockstrap [345]. The rest of this game was pretty close as AP [134(3)]  looks ready to rumble and Wayne [135] said Peyton who?? {side note: for those keeping track of the "kahoots" trade; Charles [87] is up 1-0 with CJ2K [4(47)]} Even with Maclin [126] and Cobb [77 +7TD] bringing it, Joe unleashed Marshall [149] and balance with Foster [129(-4)] and Murray [131(9)].  I knew I should have tried to draft Murray earlier!! What Peter lacked in this game is something that always haunts good offensive teams, a off week for the defense. It was looking close until Porter [-14] had his pick six, and that was pretty much, um, what is that one phrase.... oh yeah, AND THERE IS YOUR DAGGER!!!! Next week Peter will be at home, and perhaps fare a little better. HOF Lechler has decided not to play since the battle has been won this week and can be seen weaving through 3 lanes on the Oakland Freeway in about an hour. Cheers!!

Chuck @ Willie

Now to a game that might actually come down to the punter battle.  And if that is the case, the Former Champ, now Chump, may have a chip on his shoulder and try and squeak one past Chuck. Mathsay [48.2] edged out Ryan [46.3] for three points and Willie is going to need all he can get. Yeah, RGIII [360(42)] seems to be the real deal. Or are the Saints going to be that bad without coaches? Time will tell. But if Flacco doesn't do well tomorrow, Brady [276 (1)] should shoulder some of the blame if Chuck loses. But this game is too early to tell, Chuck looks really good right now, sitting with Spiller [194(25)] Ridley [150(27)] Jones [168] Thomas [140] and Graham [115]. But Willie is keeping pace with Garcon [139] Johnson [111] Green [119] and Daniels [87]. {I know, its a stretch, just go with it.} But Willie has some big gun(s) tonight in McFadden, Weddle, Goodsen, and Giordano.  Did I mention MATT GIORDANO??!! Well, look at it this way Willie, I can pretty much guarantee that none of Chuck 5 offensive guys that have to play tomorrow are going to start for him. So don't worry about them. Nevermind the fact that they put up monster numbers to cause that effect, that is besides the point. But in all seriousness folks, this one is gonna go down to the wire. I'm really excited to see how this one turns out!!!!

Well fellas, there you have it. Enjoy the next 2 games Monday night and we will be right here when you need us to tell you that life is all good because football is back. Your fantasy team looks great, your real team is a winner, and you are an all around awesome guy. What's that??? All those only apply to 2 guys in the league?? Oh. Well. Ummm. I guess... at least you still have your personal awesomeness, even if your real team, or fantasy team sucks. SEE YOU IN THE PLAYOFFS TODD!!!!

  1. WEEK 2 POWER RANKINGS

1} Charlie- he leapfrogs The Beesch with a complete and utter domination, not sure where Bj ever thought this game was close. Chuck was buoyed by the surprise performances of the week in Ridley and Spiller ( sorry Alfred Morris )who were dynamos. Week 2 has a battered Schmabby coming to Chuck. Brady v Brees is as good as it gets in GFFL QB battles.

    2) Bj- I told you Bj was good...but this good? Bj has rubbed it raw over the way his teams, both GFFL and NFL, started out as it could not have gone any better. I'm sure he got laid and found $50 in a pair of pants he hasn't worn in a while as well!! He held off a strong offensive performance from the defending champ, but defensively it was no contest. He even got a pick from a suspended guy who had none picks last year. Week 2 has him traveling to Peter for this weeks GFFL GAME OF THE WEEK.

    3) Todd- the Rookie comes out throwing haymakers and never let Schmabby get out of the mat! Another of this weeks blowouts, Todd didn't even sweat Schmabbys pick 6 as Todd went out and got one of his own. Tougher tests lie ahead, but it's very important to win those games where the stars align perfectly for you because sometimes in fantasy, those games are still lost. Todd hosts Willie in week 2, a classic contrast of styles. The stoic and non participatory Willie and the motor mouth, MGC vandalizing Todd!!

    4) Source- Source stays put at #4 and he is just fine with that. Joseph snared victory from the jaws of defeat in this weeks only competitive game, as Tracy Porters pick 6 took a loss and turned into sweet music! For those of you who forgot or don't know, 8/10 times those pick sixes are backbreakers, the one thing you can't overcome, ESPECIALLY in close games.

  2. 5) Peter- he also stays put at #5 but is not happy with that at all! Looking to knock off a formidable foe in wk 1, a certain victory turned into a barrage of swearing not heard since, well, Peters last GFFL game. His team played well led by the incomparable Adrian Peterson, but the lack of INTS is a concern. Last seasons team was plagued by a lack of big plays on defense and it cost us our first game in '12. THE SYSTEM IS FLASHING RED ON CHRIS JOHNSON...Peter is officially concerned.

    6) Joe D- strong offense and no defense. Bruce ran into a buzzsaw this weekend. His studs played well and he simply needs to move on and focus on The Source, who visits Bruce this weekend in another great game. The defending champ and #2 from '11 have the toughest games this weekend as they both look to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start, especially against teams they will be battling for playoff spots.

    7) Willie- he also needs to move on from week 1. It was just one of those weeks, if RGIII continues, he never has to worry about QB pts, and his WRs are fantastic but as I stated earlier, Willie MUST get production from McFadden or a promising season will be doomed. It doesn't get any easier as Willie travels to Todds madhouse but don't sleep on Willie just yet.

    8) Schmabby- he also stays put from last weeks power rankings and most certainly is not pleased with that! UGGGHHHH!! Just a god awful week saw him get crushed by the new guy but more importantly, Trent Richardson looked poor. It was a close game and Brandon Weeden looked like one of the worst QBs ever to play in the NFL and Richardson still was doing much?! Schmabby needs him badly...it is early and he was a victim of " just one of those weeks" as well but he needs to get better. Gets GFFLs #1 team this week so no rest for the weary.

  3. GFFL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CJ SPILLER- a bust as the #11 overall pick in '10 GFFL draft, he is finally showing the skillset Peter was hoping for 2 yrs ago. Special mention must go to Adrian Peterson, less than 9 months removed from ACL/MCL and he rushes for 84 and 2 TDs!! Impressive physical and mental feat!

GFFL DICKHEAD OF THE WEEK: CHRIS JOHNSON- what do Eli Manning, Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck have in common? Besides being #1 overall picks, slow, immobile and generally not very athletic??? Each one rushed for more yds than Chris Johnson ( 11 carries/ 4yds ) FOUR YARDS!!! " I drive all this way and all you got is Lite beer?!" - Biff...

  4. I agree with the Honorable Mention of AP. Maybe he should have even been first. The guy is an amazing human specimen. I hope he doesn't gain shit this week.

And as to me thinking a game is close??!!
Son, that is called infusing drama in what is normally boring. We gotta keep people involved regardless of how bad it gets (especially for those of us scoring a blowout.)
